Moore, Schwartzel out early with 65s at Firestone

Ryan Moore and former Masters champion Charl Schwartzel carded 5-under-65s at Firestone Country Club to lead the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational mid-way through the opening round.

The morning wave is nearly finishing at Firestone with the co-leaders holding a two-shot lead over Patrick Reed and Francesco Molinari, who both shot 67. Rory McIlroy, Sergio Garcia, Keegan Bradley and Brandt Snedeker are all 2-under with a few holes to play.

Defending champion Tiger Woods tees off at 2:20 p.m. local time.

  • LPGA Tour will begin its 2015 season in Florida with the inaugural Coates Golf Championship presented by R+L Carriers. The Golden Ocala Golf and Equestrian Club in Ocala, Florida will host the event Jan. 28-31.
  • John Rollins, 39, leads the PGA Tour’s Barracuda Championship in Reno, Nevada mid-way through the opening round with +11 points. The tournament features a Modified Stableford Scoring System. Most points accumulated wins. Rollins shot 31 on the front nine and leads a host of players at +10 points.
  • Victor Dubuisson, a runner-up in the WGC-Match Play Championship earlier this year, ranks second in the European Team standings for the Ryder Cup this September. Dubuisson shot 2-over-72 and sits T-50 at Firestone at the moment.
