Bjorn wins 14th European Tour title capturing Omega Masters

Thomas Bjorn rolled in a birdie on the first playoff hole to beat Craig Lee capture the Omega European Masters for the second time in three years.

The 66th-ranked player in the world finished 20-under for the week at Crans-sur-Sierra Golf Club in Switzerland. He closed with a 65 and moved to 8th in the Race To Dubai standings.

Bjorn, who was alone in fourth place after a 66 in round one, had two runner-ups this season. The victory was Bjorn’s 14th career European Tour triumph. Miguel Angel Jimenez, Thongchai Jaidee and Tommy Fleetwood recorded Top 10 efforts.

Henrik Stenson, leading the FedEx Cup Standings on the PGA Tour, continues to lead the Race To Dubai Standings followed by Graeme McDowell.

  • Andrew Svoboda (12-under overall) leads Ricky Barnes by two shots mid-way through the final round of the Chiquita Classic – the second leg of the Tour Finals. A dozen players are within four shots of the lead including Ryo Ishikawa, Heath Slocum and Vaughn Taylor.
  • Greg Owen, the 36-hole leader at the Chiquita Classic, had four Top 25s on the PGA Tour this season, but finishing 134 in the FedEx Cup Standings. He closed out 2012 at 85th on the money list when he was 17th in Greens In Regulation Percentage.
  • Jim Furyk, who is eyeing a TOUR Championship birth, is missing out on the Presidents Cup. Fred Couples did not make select the former U.S. Open and FedEx Cup champion as a captain’s pick. Instead, Couples chose Webb Simpson and 20-year-old PGA Tour rookie Jordan Spieth.
