Weekend Update — PGA Tour — Valspar Championship — Innisbrook Resort Cooperhead Course — Palm Beach Gardens, Florida —
Robert Garrigus sits atop the 36-hole lead at the PGA Tour’s Valspar Championship with a three-shot advantage.
Garrigus, 36, carded rounds of 69-66 to reach 7-under heading into the weekend at Innisbrook Resort’s Cooperhead Course. The 17-year pro tees off Saturday at 2:30 p.m. local time alongside Kevin Na (4-under), who leads the week in Fairways In Regulation.
Saturday is always Moving Day on the PGA Tour and early on scores are low including that of Retief Goosen, who fired a 7-under-64. He jumped 62 places before a number of players have even teed off. Matt Kuchar is also a couple of shots under par playing the front nine.
A large group at T-3 and 3-under features U.S. Open champion Justin Rose, Pat Pereze, Matteo Manassero and Matt Every. Jim Furyk is 2-under and T-8.
Harris English, Graham DeLaet and Jordan Spieth are all six back at 1-under but have a shot to make a run Saturday in round three.
Garrigus finished 77th in the PGA Tour Money List a year ago — 7th in Driving Distance. A former title champion, he was a 100-to-1 betting pick at Ladbrokes.com heading into the tournament.
