Grillo leads RBC Canadian Open after 8-under-64

Emiliano Grillo fired a bogey-free 64 at Glen Abbey Golf Club in Ontario to take the opening round lead at the PGA Tour’s RBC Canadian Open

Grillo, the 22-year-old from Argentina, has three Top 10s on the European Tour this season and a runner-up finish at the PGA Tour’s Puerto Rico Open. He was in the mix last week in Alabama at the Barbasol Championship before failing to keep up with eventual winner Scott Piercy on the weekend.

He is a shot clear of Vaughn Taylor and Brian Harman.

Several high-profile players opened with 68s and sit T-16 at the moment and four back including Bubba Watson, Jim Furyk, Jason Day and Hunter Mahan.

  • Eight players — including Bernhard Langer, Lee Janzen, Michael Allen and Miguel Angel Jimenez — are tied at the top of the leader board after shooting 5-under-65s through 18 holes at the Senior Open Championship in England. Fifty players are within four shots of the lead.
  • Lizette Salas (7-under-64) shares the overnight lead with Dori Carter and Katherine Hull-Kirk at the Meijer LPGA Classic. Inbee Park shot 70 and sits T-37. 
  • France’s Gregory Havret post 7-under-63 to assume a one-shot advantage at the European Tour’s Omega European Masters in Switzerland after round one play. A dozen players are two back at 5-under and T-3 including Danny Willett, Y.E. Yang and Michael Hoey. Pre-tournament favorite Sergio Garcia shot 69 (T-60), while American Patrick Reed posted 3-under-67 and is tied for 21st.
