High-profile players in the mix on PGA, LPGA tours

Several high-profile players including Rory McIlroy, Justin Rose, Suzann Pettersen and Michelle Wie are challenging for victories this week in the world of professional golf.

Here is a quick rundown.

  • Martin Flores (9-under overall) leads the PGA Tour’s Wells Fargo Championship at the moment. Flores is finishing up his second-round play holding a two-shot lead over U.S. Open champion Rose. Rose is 4-under through 13 holes. Overnight leader and two-time major champion Angel Cabrera is 6-under and has yet to tee off in round two. Geoff Ogilvy and Martin Laird are now in the Top 5.
  • Bernhard Langer and Fred Couples headline the field at the Champions Tour’s Insperity Championship in Texas.
  • Meena Lee is 4-under on her round half way through the second round of the North Texas LPGA Shootout. She is now 5-under overall and leading a host of players by a shot including Pettersen and Wie, who has yet to tee off in the second round.
  • McIlroy is 3-under after an opening round 69. He tees off 1:25 p.m. local time and is currently T-12. Mickelson, one shot off the lead heading into Friday, is 4-over on his round and tumbling down the leader board.
  • Panuphol Pittayarat (13-under) leads the European Tour’s The Championship by a stroke through 54 holes.
