Second Round Update — PGA Tour — Humana Challenge — PGA West Palmer Course (host) — La Quinta, California —
Matt Kuchar and overnight leader Michael Putnam are dueling at the top of the leader board mid-way through round two at the PGA Tour’s Humana Challenge in the California desert.
Kuchar, 11th in the Official World Golf Ranking, is 8-under through 13 holes at PGA West Nicklaus Private in his second round action. He is now 15-under overall and a shot ahead of Putnam. Nick Watney, 7-under on his round, is 12-under and three back at the moment.
Five players are tied at 10-under including Italy’s Francesco Molinari and Pat Perez. Ryan Palmer is making a big move Friday. He is 7-under through seven holes and creeping closer to the Top 10. He was runner-up here last year finishing two back.
Defending champion Patrick Reed is even through 12 holes on his round and sits at 7-under and T-19 at the moment. Another headliner Phil Mickelson is struggling a bit. He is 1-under overall and tied for 104th mid-way through his second round. The tournament features a three-course rotation and a cut after Saturday’s third round action.

- Kuchar was one of the betting favorites heading into the week at www.skybet.com at 18-to-1 odds. He was a runner-up at this event in 2010.
- Four players — including Branden Grace — are tied at 13-under for the lead through 54 holes at the European Tour’s CommercialBank Qatar Masters. Grace won the Alfred Dunhill Championship in December on the tour. Marc Warren is apart of that group at 13-under. Warren, a 125-1 pick this week, won the Made in Denmark tour stop last August. Sergio Garcia (77 and now T-62), Justin Rose (T-22 at 6-under) and Henrik Stenson (T-39) are in the field.
- Lydia Ko, sporting new contact lenses instead of her oversize glasses, made an appearance at the Callaway Golf stage at the 62nd PGA Merchandise Show in Orlando. The 17-year-old, who is second in the Rolex Ranking, begins her 2015 season next week in Florida at the Coates Golf Championship.
