Lewis off to a hot start at Pinehurst No. 2

  • Stacy Lewis, Rolex Ranking No. 1, jumped out to a hot start the 69th U.S. Women’s Open. She shot 3-under-69 in the opening round at Pinehurst No. 2. Lewis leads by two shots at the moment, as the afternoon wave is now on the course. Karrie Webb shot even-par-70, while Lexi Thompson shot 71.
  • Mikko Ilonen shot 7-under-64 to lead for the moment at the European Tour’s Irish Open. The Finland native, who is 63rd in the Official World Golf Ranking, is two clear of his nearest competition. Rory McIlroy, the pre-tournament betting favorite, shot 3-over.
  • Defending champion at the U.S. Women’s Open and two-time champion Inbee Park struggled to a 76 in the opening round.
  • Brendan Steele, 31, shot a bogey-free 8-under-62 to open his week at the PGA Tour’s Travelers Championship. He leads by one over Bud Cauley as the afternoon wave hits the golf course at TPC River Highlands. Keegan Bradley carded a 68 in the morning wave. He is T-3 at the moment.
