Final Round — PGA Tour – Quicken Loans National — Robert Trent Jones Jr. Golf Club — Gainesville, Virginia —
Troy Merritt converted his maiden PGA Tour victory holding on to the 54-hole lead and winning the Quicken Loans National.
Merritt, a super long-shot entering the week as a 250-to-1 betting pick at www.skybet.com, carded a 67 Sunday at Robert Trent Jones Jr. Golf Club to post a three-shot victory over Rickie Fowler.
David Lingmerth, who won the Memorial Tournament earlier this summer, finished alone in third at 14-under. A host of players — including Justin Rose, Justin Thomas, Danny Lee and Bill Haas — were among those at T-4 and T-12.
Haas failed to keep his hot start going Sunday. The 2013 champion at this event was 6-under through 10 holes and leading before coming home in 39.
Merritt set himself up with a Saturday 61.
