Mickelson misses Pro-Am, still in Shell Houston Open field

After missing the Pro-Am Wednesday at the Shell Houston Open, Phil Mickelson is still planning to play Thursday in the opening round despite an oblique injury that forced him out of the Valero Texas Open last weekend.

Mickelson is set to tee off Thursday at 7:50 a.m. local time off No. 10 at the Golf Club of Houston in a featured group with Webb Simpson and Keegan Bradley.

Last week’s champion Steven Bowditch bucked the trend of withdrawing from a tournament the week after collecting a victory. Bowditch is playing at the Shell Houston Open as he prepares for his start at the Masters Tournament next week.

With Tiger Woods already out of the Masters Tournament following back surgery, Mickelson’s appearance (still questionable) will certainly be the talk of the town all week.
