Second Round — PGA Tour — Arnold Palmer Invitational presented by MasterCard — Bay Hill Club & Lodge — Orlando, Florida —
Adam Scott sleeps on a 7-shot lead at the PGA Tour’s Arnold Palmer Invitational at Bay Hill in Orlando.
The Aussie backed up his opening-round 62 with a Friday 68 to reach 14-under overall lapping the field. Chesson Hadley, J.B. Holmes and Francesco Molinari are all 7-under and T-2. For Hadley, he continues his rookie season on the PGA Tour in fine fashion. He won the Puerto Rico Open in early March — an opposite-field event (to the WGC-Match Play). He is fresh off winning the money title a season ago on the Web.com Tour.
Scott, chasing Tiger Woods for the No. 1 spot in the Official World Golf Ranking, is eyeing his 11th PGA Tour career victory this week. The Aussie won the Masters Tournament and The Barclays during the FedEx Cup Playoffs last season on the PGA Tour along with international triumphs late in 2013 at the Australian PGA Championship and Talisker Masters.
Part of a group at 5-under, Keegan Bradley and Brandt Snedeker are T-5. Snedeker is searching for his first Top 10 of the 2014 season.
After solid opening rounds of 65, Ryo Ishikawa and John Merrick slipped back to T-10 shooting 74 in round two. They weren’t the only ones struggling in day two at Arnold’s place as Paul Casey shot 79 (after opening with 67 Thursday) and Gonzalo Fernandez-Castano backed up his 66 with a Friday 77.
Others powered through as Justin Hicks shot 68 to make the cut at T-66. He shot 78 in round one.
Several high-profile players missed the cut in Orlando including U.S. Open champion Justin Rose (71-79), Lee Westwood (75-76) and last week’s 54-hole leader Robert Garrigus (76-76).
