Weekend Preview – PGA Tour – Farmers Insurance Open – Torrey Pines – La Jolla, California –
Jordan Spieth tees off with former Open champion Stewart Cink and Nicolas Colsaerts in the final group Saturday at the PGA Tour’s Farmers Insurance Open near San Diego.
The trio tees off No. 1 at the Torrey Pines South Course at 9:45 a.m. local time.
For Spieth, it’s his first 36-hole lead on the tour. The youngest was Rookie of the Year last season including a victory at the John Deere Classic, a President Cup appearance and a runner-up at the TOUR Championship.
Spieth’s second-round 9-under-63 on the North Course moved him to the top of the leader board. He leads Cink (9-under overall) by a shot and Colsaerts by two.
The 40-year-old Cink entered the week as a 175-to-1 long shot at Skybet.com. He has six career PGA Tour victories. Spieth was a 33-1 selection, while Colsaerts(74th in the world ranking) was 125-1.
Marc Leishman and Billy Horschel are T-4 at 7-under and within striking distance as everyone moves to the South Course – a difficult test over the weekend. Aussie Jason Day is part of a group at 5-under along with J.B. Holmes and Charley Hoffman.
Tiger Woods, a 7-time winner at this event, is T-41 heading into the weekend, while Phil Mickelson withdrew with a back injury after making the cut.
