First Round –PGA Tour – Northern Trust Open – Riviera Country Club – Pacific Palisades, California –
Six players are tied at the top of the leader board after round one of the PGA Tour’s Northern Trust Open.
Riviera Country Club near Los Angeles yielded rounds of 5-under-66 to some of the game’s most decorated players including Hall of Fame member Vijay Singh, 51, and 46-year-old, two-time U.S. Open champion Retief Goosen.
Younger players including Daniel Summerhays and Derek Fathauer are also 5-under along with five-time PGA Tour winner Nick Watney, who is contending for the third time on the West Coast Swing.
Watney, who is trying to earn a spot in the Masters Tournament with a strong finish, was runner-up last week at Pebble on the heals of a T-7 at Torrey Pines.
Defending champion Bubba Watson is T-17 after a 1-under round. He is one of 30-plus players within five shots of the lead, so expect a rapidly changing leader board over the next 54 holes. Top 10 headliners Jim Furyk, World No. 6, and seventh-ranked Sergio Garcia logged even-par rounds.
