Final Round – European Tour – Omega Dubai Desert Classic – Emirates Golf Club – Dubai, United Arab Emirates –
Danny Willett (19-under) captured the Omega Dubai Desert Classic on the European Tour.
Willett carded 3-under on his final round at Emirates Golf Club to edge Rafael Cabrera-Bello and Andy Sullivan by a shot for his first victory of the season.
RCB finished runner-up for the second straight week on the European Tour. He was T-2 last week losing to Branden Grace at the Qatar Masters.
Byeong-Hun An logged a T-4 effort at 16-under alongside Alvaro Quiros. An posted 7-under-65 in the final round. He won the BMW PGA Championship last May for his biggest victory to date.
Rory McIlory, the defending champion, ended up T-6 with Henrik Stenson. McIlroy and Sullivan both won late last season – Rory winning the DP World Tour Championship in Dubai in November, while Sullivan captured the Portugal Masters in October.
Last year, Willett logged two wins and finished second to Rory in the Race to Dubai standings. One could argue he was robbed of the title – as Rory was granted a special exemption to compete in the playoffs.
Willett, who entered the week at No. 20 in the Official World Golf Ranking, was a 33-to-1 betting pick at www.golfodds.com. He could threaten the Top 15 with this victory.
